Some of the common names for them have been, "devil's darning needle" (England), "ear cutter" (England), "eye-poker" (Norwegian), "eye-snatcher" (Portugal), "adder's servant" (Welch), and "snake doctor" (USA). Some cultures like the Native American Tribes believe that dragonflies are swift and active. They symblize "pure water" (Navajo). They have appered on pottery (Zuni) to look like a double-barred cross, appered on rock art (Hopi) and jewelry (Pueblo). In Japan they are symbols of "courage", "strength" and "happiness".
